PRESS  RELEASE

Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?
By Edward Albee
Opens at the Actors Workshop Theatre on Saturday, March 1, 2007, at 8pm

AWT, soon to be redtwist theatre, gives this legendary play a total makeover,
placing George and Martha and their guests in a surrealistic funhouse
of twisted co-dependence, marital dysfunction, and intoxicating spirits

The Play and the Players

AWT’s leading lady, Jan Ellen Graves, takes on the larger-than-life, scortched-earth role of Martha, and Artistic Director (and Jan’s real-life husband), Michael Colucci, plays her long-suffering, whipping-boy husband, George, in this unique, surrealistic production of Edward Albee’s timeless tale of twisted co-dependence driven by venomous hate, toxic wit, raging sarcasm, corrosive humor, and...love. There is no other play quite like it, and there has never been another production quite like what you will see at the (soon-to-be) redtwist theatre.

The cast includes two of Chicago’s finest rising young actors, Paul Perroni as Nick, and Amy Speckien as Honey. Paul has recently signed on as one of the eight original “cavemen” who will be taking the hit play, Defending the Caveman, on the Broadway National tour throughout the U.S. Paul crashed an Equity audition for the Caveman gig in New York City and got called back on the spot. Amy has been working steadily on Chicago stages since coming here, and upon arriving at the audition for the role of Honey, she said she didn’t feel like reading and preferred to talk…and proceeded, in casual conversation, to give us a completely detailed and endearingly scattered characterization of...the role of Honey. It was the most unique and effective audition ever at the AWT.
